One of the things I love most about living in Canada is how much we embrace the cultures of the people who live here. Both sides of my family immigrated to Canada many years ago to provide a better life for their children and I couldn't be more appreciative. Imagine, uprooting your whole life, leaving family and friends behind to head out to live in a brand new world, where you don't even speak the same language. Most of us wouldn't be able to do it. Canada though, does not force people to change or to conform. It allows us to celebrate our heritage, and that is one of the best things about being a Canadian.
Giovanna comes from a deep Italian heritage, and Shah has Persian roots. Both backgrounds place an enormous importance on their culture, heritage, and traditions. What made this day truly amazing to me was to see the merging of not only these two fantastic people, but their cultures as well. After a lovely ceremony in downtown Toronto, a wonderful reception was held out in Vaughn where both sides shared with each other their food, their music, and their traditions. Both sides of the guests were amazing! Openly taking part in such as the "tie-cutting ceremony" and the "ritual henna dance". Everyone danced the night away to both the rhythmic sounds of Persian music and the bouncy Tarantella. It was a fantastic time, and truly the definition of a party!
Congrats again Giovanna & Shah!!!!
